Today I wanted to talk about something I am asked fairly often at open houses, typically by home buyers, new and move up buyers, and that is “what new things are being built in “X” County?”
Usually, that “X” county is Prince Georges County as homes in Prince Georges County (typically shortened to “PG” County) tend to have more land as well as a larger variety of newer homes over Montgomery County and Washington DC. This is due to the size of Prince Georges County, PG County is the largest county in a Maryland, thus there is more land to develop.
Over the last couple of years, Prince Georges County has seen its fair share of new housing development as well as retail and a new hospital. Some of the more notable are University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center, the new hospital is state-of-the-art and will replace Prince George’s Hospital Center as Prince Georges County primary hospital. By the looks of the Yelp reviews for Prince Georges Hospital Center, UMD Capital Regional Medical Center needs to be built sooner rather than the 2021 completion date.
Another exciting new mixed-use development being built in Prince Georges County are the new developments at. According to Urban Atlantic, Kaiser Permanente will anchor 200k of office space, there will be a total of 1500 residential units at project completion and 150k of retail space.
The Purple Line is another major project that will undoubtedly boost the local economy in Prince Georges County. If you’d like a rundown of what new developments are going on in Prince Georges County be sure to check out Prince Georges County Economic Development website here.
